A Beloved Winter Tradition at Lake Martin
The Lake Martin Young Professionals have announced that the LMYP Polar Plunge, presented by LakeScape, will return to Lake Martin on January 17, 2026, marking its tenth year as one of the most anticipated winter events in the region. Hosted on the shores of Kowaliga Beach, this high-energy community gathering blends fun, friendly competition, and a meaningful mission: supporting the Lake Martin Resource Association and its ongoing efforts to keep Lake Martin clean, safe, and prosperous.
Each year, residents and visitors alike gather to embrace the cold, celebrate the season, and support a cause that directly impacts the lake lifestyle. Whether participants dive into the icy waters or enjoy the festivities from dry land, the LMYP Polar Plunge offers something for everyone.
Event Details You Need to Know
The LMYP Polar Plunge takes place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Time. Doors open at 10:00 AM, giving attendees plenty of time to enjoy food trucks, live music, and socializing before the main event. The official Plunge begins at noon, followed by live music and activities continuing through the afternoon.
The event is held at Kowaliga Beach, a familiar and scenic setting that provides easy access to the water and plenty of space for spectators and participants to gather. Kowaliga’s bars will be open for the event, serving favorite beverages and adding to the festive atmosphere.

Plunger or Docker: Choose Your Experience
Participants can choose how they want to enjoy the LMYP Polar Plunge. Plungers can take the leap into Lake Martin for a $15 entry fee, which includes access to food trucks, live music, and all on-site activities. This option is perfect for those ready to embrace the cold and create unforgettable memories.
Prefer to stay dry? Dockers are welcome to join the celebration for $20 and enjoy all the same benefits, minus the icy swim. Whether plunging or docking, every ticket supports the Lake Martin Resource Association and its vital environmental initiatives.
Tickets will be available online until Wednesday, January 14, with additional tickets sold at the door once online sales close.
Contests, Cash Prizes, and Crowd Favorites
Beyond the plunge itself, the event features crowd-pleasing competitions that add excitement and friendly rivalry. The Costume Contest invites participants to get creative, with a $100 cash prize awarded to the best costume. From themed outfits to bold winter statements, costumes are always a highlight of the day.
Immediately following the plunge, brave participants can compete in the Dash for the Cash. This short race sends swimmers to a floating buoy and back to shore, with another $100 prize on the line. These activities add energy and entertainment, making the LMYP Polar Plunge a true spectacle for participants and spectators alike.

Comfort, Safety, and On-Site Amenities
Event organizers have planned carefully to ensure comfort and safety throughout the day. Changing tents will be available on-site so plungers can dry off and change clothes quickly after exiting the water. T-shirts will also be available for purchase, offering a fun keepsake from the event.
Plungers are encouraged to bring water shoes, as the beach area can be slightly rocky. These small preparations help ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable plunge experience.
Supporting a Cause That Matters
At its core, the LMYP Polar Plunge is about community impact. Proceeds from the event support the Lake Martin Resource Association, an organization dedicated to protecting the lake’s environmental health and long-term sustainability. By participating, attendees directly contribute to preserving the lake that plays such a central role in life around Lake Martin.
Plan Your Day at the LMYP Polar Plunge
Whether you are a first-time visitor or a seasoned participant, the LMYP Polar Plunge offers a unique way to enjoy winter at Lake Martin. Come for the plunge, stay for the music, food, and camaraderie, and leave knowing you supported a meaningful local cause.
